Portable power station companies that sell massively well in Africa

Portable Power Station is one Device Powering up Homes and Multiple devices in Africa as conventional Grid power fail

In many parts of sub-sahara Africa, the conventional power grids do not dispense enough electricity to power homes, industries, schools and the manufacturing sector. This simply means that there is an Energy supply deficit, and, in my home country Nigeria, people are now looking to off-grid energy solutions that will help them stay powered up and connected to the global ecosystem.

In this article we shall examine some global, popular brands that manufacture portable power stations widely used in many parts of Africa. Please note that this list is inexhaustive, and the brands listed here are done in no particular order.

Anker

Founded in the year 2011 by Steven Yang, Anker Innovations Co. Ltd. which is more commonly known as “Anker” is one of the world’s global leaders in charging technology. A Chinese company based in Changsha, China, Anker has an impressive product range—at least in the portable power station category—for campers, people going on road trips, corporate Bros who need constant power to charge their work devices off-grid, among others. The company has a product range for different price entry points, but some of their popular portable power banks include the Anker PowerHouse series of portable power stations. The company’s products are available in different countries, via various online retailers.

In Nigeria, Anker PowerHouse portable power stations are popular generally among the upwardly mobile professionals and content creators (who are the ones that can more easily afford its prices). It is one of their go-to choices for off-grid power solutions to power up their laptops and other apparatus.

Ecoflow

EcoFlow Technology Inc. is known more popularly under its brand name “EcoFlow”. Founded in 2017, EcoFlow is a leading provider of eco-friendly energy solutions, inclusive of their portable power stations. Headquartered in the US, Japan and Germany, EcoFlow has a global presence extending across multiple regions, in more than 100 markets worldwide. They have very popular portable power station models like the EcoFlow RIVER series and the DELTA series. While the EcoFlow RIVER series are generally more lightweight, the DELTA series are known to be bulkier and more expensive than its sister series and work for devices and systems that require more power consumption.

Bluetti

BLUETTI Power Inc., popularly known simply as “Bluetti” is a clean energy company with a geographical spread that stretches into over 110 countries and regions around the world. Bluetti is a technology pioneer with a clear, sustained focus on clean energy for urban use. In addition to its numerous lines of products, Bluetti has numerous products in its portable power station lineup, and its impressive lineup of portable power stations at different price points has helped Bluetti work its way to domain authority in the portable power station market in different parts of Africa.

In Nigeria, Bluetti is quite a popular choice among remote workers and professionals who need portable charging solution to the country’s power issues and Bluetti’s EB series seem to perform particularly well in the market.

Jackery

Jackery is a US-based company founded in the year 2012 and specializes in making compact portable power stations. Over the years Jackery has expanded its global footprint by shipping more products around the globe, backed by a very strong R&D effort that has gained the company international recognition. Jackery’s popular product lines include their Jackery Explorer 3000 portable power station, Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus portable power station, Jackery Explorer 1500 portable power station, among others.

Oraimo [Portable Power Station]

Oraimo is a Chinese brand owned by Shenzhen Transsion Holdings Co., Ltd., the parent company that owns Tecno, Infinix and iTel. Transsion Holdings’ has had a very strong, near-unbreakable footing in the African continent which is its largest concentrated market, particularly because of their cheaper, entry-level, all-comers product lines. And with that popularity, has come expansion into more product lines, including the manufacturing and sale of Oraimo portable power stations. The company recently launched the Powerstation 600 600W portable power station. As of now, while the company has had massive penetration into the African market, they are yet to introduce many variants and capacity models of the portable power station, but we are watching and we are certain that they will make more.

There are several global brands out there making power stations for camping, outdoor use, and as alternative off-grid solutions to conventional Energy use. We simply spotlighted a few of these global companies that have been performing well in the African market. We will continue to update the post to reflect growing changes in the Energy market. 1. Quite an interesting read. Which company produces Itel power banks? I think they have quite a good range of products.

    1. Lovely reading from you, Ikenna. The company that manufactures their power banks is iTel Limited. They seem to have very strong powerbanks that people love, but quite weirdly, people hate Oraimo powerbanks which is manufactured by the same Group.
